PCC Dafydd Llywelyn and Youth ambassadors outside Dafan Custody Suite.

Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn, led a community engagement day today, dedicated to empowering youth voices, highlighting road safety, and strengthening partnerships with local leaders in Carmarthenshire. The event aligns with National Youth Day on November 24, 2024, and celebrates the invaluable contributions of youth ambassadors in our communities.

The day began with an introduction to members of PCC Dafydd Llywelyn’s Office, followed by a visit to Dafen Custody Suite in Llanelli, where the PCC and youth ambassadors met with Independent Custody Visitors and Custody Staff. This visit highlighted the critical role of custody oversight and transparency, areas where youth ambassadors are eager to contribute their views and perspectives.

During the afternoon, ambassadors joined PCC Llywelyn in exploring road safety with the Roads Policing Unit in Cross Hands, where they toured a Roads Policing Vehicle in preparation for Road Safety Week next week.  With increased concerns around anti-social behaviour and road safety in the region, these ambassadors provide a vital youth perspective on pressing issues.

The day concluded with a meeting between the youth ambassadors, Commissioner and Chief Constable, Dr. Richard Lewis to discuss expanding youth participation, including the possibility of creating Youth Panels for further scrutiny work. This initiative reflects the PCC’s commitment to empowering young voices to influence police policies and practices that affect their daily lives.
