Police and Crime Commissioner, Dafydd Llywelyn, spent the day in Carmarthen yesterday, meeting with key community groups and partners as part of his ongoing commitment to engagement and public safety.

The day began with a visit to Carmarthenshire Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), where the PCC gained insight into the challenges and successes of local policing efforts. This was followed by a visit to Barod Media, where the PCC participated in an interview that will soon feature on Barod’s news channels, including their YouTube feed.

A key highlight of the day was the Youth Ambassadors Scrutiny Panel, which took place at the OPCC Office. The panel provided a valuable platform for young people to voice their opinions on policing and community issues, reinforcing the PCC’s commitment to youth engagement and inclusion in decision-making processes.

Other engagements included a PL Kicks HQ Tour at the OPCC Office, where the PCC held a Q&A session, and a visit to the Force Communication Centre (FCC) and CCTV facilities, offering an in-depth look at how technology is being used to enhance public safety. The day also featured discussions on career opportunities and employability with Nia Rees, as well as a meeting with Cllr Steve Williams to discuss Sign Language Awareness Week.

The OPCC Volunteer Schemes were another focus of the day, with Youth Ambassadors and Tom Walters discussing the vital role of volunteers in supporting policing and community initiatives. The day concluded with a meeting with Iwan Thomas from Planed, hosted at the Living Well Centre, to discuss local initiatives and future collaborations.

Reflecting on the day, PCC Dafydd Llywelyn said: “It was fantastic to meet with so many dedicated individuals and groups working to make a difference in our communities. The Youth Scrutiny Panel, in particular, was a highlight, showcasing the importance of young people’s voices in shaping policing policies.”
