Anyone can be affected by a road death caused by a road traffic collision (RTC) and it can be a very frightening and traumatic experience.

Bereavements through road traffic collisions are sudden and unexpected. They leave Victim’s families needing high levels of support for prolonged periods of time.

Victim Support Road Service provides a personalised support service to bereaved families following the death of a loved one as a result of an RTC.

How can Victim Support help
Victim Support are an independent charity offering free and confidential support to people affected by crime and traumatic incidents. Support is given to those referred via Police Family Liaison Officers, or those wishing to self-refer.

Each family is assigned a dedicated caseworker. They act as the single point of contact, from the initial referral, until they no longer need support.

The caseworker provides support including:

  • Personal support with a specially trained caseworker, in a way that works for you.
  • Speak in confidence, ask questions and get advice and emotional support.
  • We know that road death affects the whole family. We offer support to everyone directly affected, and we help parents and carers to support children coping with the impact.
  • Putting you in touch with other specialist help, services or support.
  • Advice and support in applying for compensation or financial assistance if you are eligible. (You will need to report the crime to the police in order to apply).
  • Practical information to help you make sense of what’s happened.
  • Information about the criminal justice system and courts procedures. If you have been affected by road death, we offer support from experienced and specially trained staff.
