Supporting Older Victim-Survivors on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

To mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on 15 June, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Dyfed-Powys area is shining a light on the experiences of older people affected by domestic abuse.
Domestic abuse can impact individuals of any age, but older victim-survivors often face additional challenges when accessing support. Issues such as isolation, financial dependency, and long-term trauma can make it more difficult for older people to seek help or leave abusive situations.
One pioneering organisation leading the way is Dewis Choice, who are celebrating their 10th anniversary. Dewis Choice was the first dedicated service of its kind in the UK, supporting older people who have experienced abuse from intimate partners or adult family members.
This summer, the organisation is also unveiling a refreshed brand identity, including a new logo and website, to mark this important milestone.
Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said:
“I want to congratulate Dewis Choice on their 10-year anniversary and thank them for the crucial work they do to support older victim-survivors of domestic abuse. They’ve transformed the way we think about abuse in later life, and their research-led, person-centred approach continues to influence national practice. We’re proud to stand alongside them on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and beyond.”
