As part of Dementia Awareness Week, the Dyfed-Powys Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is supporting the roll-out of the Herbert Protocol, a free initiative designed to help protect people living with dementia who are at risk of going missing.

The Herbert Protocol is a national scheme now adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police. It encourages carers, family members or friends to record vital information about someone who may be vulnerable. This includes details such as medication needs, favourite places, daily routines and a recent photograph.

If that person is ever reported missing, having this information ready can help police respond more quickly and effectively.

The form can be filled out at any time and kept at home or shared with local care providers. In the event of someone going missing, it can then be handed over to police to assist in the search. It is completely free to download and use.

PCC Dafydd Llywelyn said,
โ€œThis is an important step in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. For families and carers, the Herbert Protocol offers a way to plan ahead and make sure vital details are available when every second counts. I encourage anyone who supports someone living with dementia to complete the form and keep it updated.โ€
