Community Engagement Day in South Powys

On Wednesday 26th of March, I held a Community Engagement Day in Powys, visiting Brecon and Crickhowell area. During the day I visited NPTC Brecon Beacon College, as well as Crickhowell High School to talk to children and young people about their views of Policing in the area, and to explain about my role as Police and Crime Commissioner. I also visited POBL, who run our Offender Diversion Scheme here in Dyfed-Powys who aim to divert low-level criminals away from the Criminal Justice System.
In the afternoon, I attended a meeting with representatives from Crickhowell Town Council, who had raised some concerns following receiving correspondence from myself about the future use of the current Crickhowell Police Station. I was pleased to be able to reassure the Councillors, that Officers and PCSOs will still have a base in Crickhowell when the local station closes, through our collaboration work with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service. The people in Crickhowell will see no difference in the level service from Dyfed-Powys Police due to the relocation of the Police base within the town.
During the afternoon also, staff from my Office hosted a Community Surgery event in Theatre Brycheiniog, Brecon, where they met with local residents to gain an understanding of local concerns and issues, and to also promote our volunteering opportunities and the new Police and Crime Plan which I launched last month.
In the evening, I hosted a public meeting with Brecon Town Council, in the Guildhall, and was accompanied by Chief Constable Richard Lewis and the Superintendent for Dyfed-Powys, John Rees. I would like to thank all members of the public who took time to attend the event to discuss their concerns with us, in particular to the Police Cadets, who came along to talk to me about some of the fantastic work they have been doing locally in the Brecon area.
