Problem-Oriented Policing Plan Scrutiny
It was identified by an His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) inspection that Dyfed Powys Police required to improve the Neighbourhood Policing’s community engagement. To help aid this improvement Dyfed Powys Police are seeking to undertake independent scrutiny on areas such as Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) plans. Dyfed Powys Police approached the OPCC to collaborate on this activity.
Problem-oriented policing (POP) encourages Dyfed-Powys Police officers to look beyond isolated incidents in particular communities and instead recognise patterns of recurring incidents and crimes. They also look at the effects of these incidents and crimes on local communities.
Overall, POP Plans outline a method for Dyfed-Powys Police to deal with problems faced by individual communities.
The overall purpose of the scrutiny is to assess whether the proposed POP plans are reasonable, proportionate and necessary.
